How to Scan FAQs

Go to calottery.com and scroll down to the bottom of any page of the California Lottery website to where you see “Download Our App Now.” Click on your preferred App Store to be taken directly to the California Lottery Official App for your device.

For optimal performance, we recommend Apple (iOS) device version 14 and Android device version 11.0 and above.

Yes. When you download the California Lottery Official App it will ask you to allow the app to access your device’s camera. If you failed to do this during the initial launch of the app, please go to Settings, find the California Lottery Official App, and turn on the camera. The scanning feature will not operate if you do not allow this access.

YES! Effective May 21, 2018 you can use Check-A-Ticket in the Mobile App to scan all Scratchers and Draw game tickets to see if you are a winner. The scanning feature is also available for 2nd Chance submissions.

You can watch the How to Scan Check-A-Ticket for Android video here or the How to Scan Check-A-Ticket for iOS video here. Tap on "Check-A-Ticket" in the menu and hold your device so that you can see your ticket on the screen. Then keep your camera over the barcode. The scanner will automatically recognize if it is an eligible Check-A-Ticket barcode and confirm your entry.

First, make sure you are scanning the unique barcode on the FRONT of the ticket. There are other reasons why the unique Check-A-Ticket and 2nd Chance barcode may not be scanning. These may include:

* Light reflecting off the ticket.
* A smudged or badly printed barcode.
* Torn or damaged ticket.
* Over-scratched ticket.
* Dirty camera lens.
* Older camera with low resolution.
* The 2nd Chance code was previously scanned and confirmed.

You can watch the How to Scan for 2nd Chance Android video here or the How to Scan for 2nd Chance iOS video here. Tap on "Enter 2nd Chance" in the menu and hold your device so that you can see your ticket on the screen. Then keep your camera over the barcode. The scanner will automatically recognize if it is an eligible 2nd Chance barcode and confirm your entry. Not all Draw games are eligible for 2nd Chance. Currently any SuperLotto Plus ticket, and Fantasy 5 tickets over $5, have codes that can be entered into 2nd Chance.

On Scratchers® tickets, the unique barcode is located in different locations on the FRONT of each ticket. On all Draw games the barcode is on the front of the ticket, see examples below:

For Check-A-Ticket, a pop-up message will tell you if your ticket is a winner or not. If it is a winner, the message will include the amount of your prize. For 2nd Chance scans, you’ll get a “success” message. You can also go to “My Submissions” to see a record of your successful 2nd Chance submissions. If the submission record is there, you can be assured that it is in the system.

You can manually enter the 2nd Chance code into your account with the app. Just sign into your 2nd Chance account and click on the “Enter Manually” button at the top of the scanning window.

If your Check-A-Ticket or 2nd Chance code scan is not successful, you will get an appropriate error message.
