Teri Darrell has a very old dog. But one thing that gets this old dog up and acting like a puppy again is his love of chasing squirrels. In order to find some squirrels to chase, Darrell and her dog go to a nearby park where she tosses some nuts on the ground.
But of course, Darrell has to go to the store to buy those nuts. On a recent trip to the park for a squirrel-chasing adventure, Darrell stopped at a local market to buy some nuts. That’s when she noticed that the Mega Millions jackpot was up to $393 million. She purchased $10 worth of Quick Pick® tickets and was off to the park.
One of those tickets matched five of the six winning numbers from the August 11 draw to help her win $550,731! So you see, if Darrell’s dog didn’t like to chase squirrels, she never would’ve won all that money…it all makes perfect sense.
Darrell purchased the nuts and the winning ticket at Lake Vista Liquors, which is located at 1123 Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale (Santa Clara County). The ticket matched the numbers 56-23-58-33 and 53, missing only the Mega number 6. Had the ticket matched the Mega number, she would’ve won a share of the $393 million jackpot.
We asked Darrell how she felt being just one number away from hitting the huge jackpot, and she said that she is completely satisfied with the win. In fact, when she and her boyfriend went back to the store to scan the ticket, they gave each other a huge high-five after seeing the win on the machine. They were kind enough to give us another picture-perfect high-five with their huge check.
As for what the happy couple plans on doing with the money, Darrell said that she would like to invest some of it and put some toward retirement. We have a feeling Darrell and her dog will be going on a few more squirrel-chasing adventures!
