Alfredo Jauregui is a Navy Reservist who just returned from Afghanistan in November. That alone would make for a merry Christmas, but now he and his family have even more reason to celebrate.
As is customary, Jauregui bought five Fantasy 5 tickets on Monday but didn’t win. On Tuesday, he saw that no one else had won either and that the top prize had rolled, so he bought five more tickets, then he went about his Tuesday night, hitting the bowling alley like he usually does. Once there, he saw that someone in San Ramon had won the top prize and couldn’t wait to get home and check his tickets. “I bowled the worst three games of my life because I was anxious – I just wanted to check those tickets,” he explained. On the way home, he called his wife and told her about the winner from San Ramon, and being the eternal optimist, she said “I have a feeling it’s us.” Once Jauregui arrived home and checked his tickets, he called his wife to tell her she was right, it was them, they had won one-half of the $391,894 top prize, netting them $195,947.
Jauregui plans to pay off debt, buy a new car, help his family and save the rest for their future family. He purchased his ticket at the Fast & Easy Mart located at 2820 Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon (Contra Costa County). His ticket matched the numbers 20, 31, 4, 37, and 7.
