Captain's Spotlight

BChumley Pic v2

CONGRATULATIONS
CAPTAIN BEVERLY CHUMLEY of BLOOMINGTON

In it to win it!  That’s the motto Jackpot Captain Beverly Chumley and her team plays by.  They’ve been playing together since 2007 and have won here and there, including a $300 prize.  But they’ve got their eyes set on the BIG jackpot.

“I like to give them hope that winning is coming,” Chumley said.  “So being a cheerleader is what I do.”

That’s an important part of being a Jackpot Captain – rallying your team.  Chumley’s group calls themselves “The Golden 3”.  It’s a family affair as the team is made up of Chumley, her mom and her aunt.  The Golden 3 likes to play Scratchers®, Fantasy 5 and California’s very own big game, SuperLotto Plus®.  They’ll also play MegaMillions® and Powerball®, but only when the jackpots are high.  For the draw games, they mostly buy Quick Picks ® and then, as Chumley says, “(We) keep our fingers crossed.”

Chumley usually buys her tickets at the same spot.  “Every morning I go into 7-11 to get my coffee and snacks and I check out the latest Scratchers that are out.”  She also stays on top of Lottery news through the monthly e-newsletter.

Since the team has been together for a while, they’ve had time to think about what they’d do if they hit the big one.  “We would donate some of the winnings to our church that is currently building a school,” Chumley said.  “In addition, we would also use some of that money to help people who are in need, such as single moms.”
