Bay Area Scratchers® Players Take Home $500,000 & $600,000 Prizes!

SACRAMENTO – Camara Granados had a fantastic trip to the Bay Area recently. That’s because Granados, who goes by the nickname of “Yeimy,” won the top prize of $500,000 on a $5 California Lottery Money in the Bank Scratchers.

“My boyfriend bought the ticket while we were in the Bay Area. I ended up taking the ticket all the way home to Gresham, Oregon. I was in shock when I realized I had won $500,000. I still don’t know how to react,” Granados told the California Lottery. She recently braved the long drive from Oregon to the Sacramento district office where she claimed her half-million-dollar prize!

Granados said she plans on using her winnings to fix up her house in Oregon.

Granados purchased her winning ticket at G & H Liquor, which is located at 201 Jones Street, in San Francisco.

Down in Santa Clara County, Siosi Taunaholo’s decision to rent a DVD from a Red Box machine turned out to be a real-life twist of fate. After selecting her movie, Taunaholo decided to pick up a $1 Set for Life Scratchers ticket while she was at the store. That last-minute decision paid off big because she ended up winning the game’s top prize of $600,000.

“I bought the ticket because I thought [it] might be my lucky day,” Taunaholo told the California Lottery. The Bay Area’s latest lucky California Lottery player said she plans on using the money to help buy a house.

Taunaholo purchased her Set for Life Scratchers at the Lucky supermarket located at 2175 Grant Road in Los Altos (Santa Clara County). That top prize works out to $2,000 a month for 25 years! Do the math and you’re looking at $600,000. Taunaholo also has the option of taking a lump-sum cash option amount of $348,000 before taxes.

Like all Lottery Scratchers games, Money in the Bank and Set for Life come with a second chance to win a great prize. The Lottery’s 2nd Chance Program offers players a chance to win weekly cash prizes of up to $25,000. Players enter their non-winning Scratchers tickets on our website and are automatically entered into the weekly pool drawing. A total of $100,000 will be given away every week.

This is all part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for California public education.

The California Lottery is a $6 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the State’s General Fund. Its mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. In FY 2016-17, the Lottery created 83 new millionaires. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
