You have to know what they have been going through to fully appreciate the upside to a lottery win in San Jose. Diana and Gregory Espino are now set for life after winning the top prize in the California Lottery’s Set For Life Scratchers® game. They bought just two of the $1 version of the family of tickets. One of them came up empty, but the other netted the couple $2,000 per month for 25 years for a total of $600,000!
“The last few years have been…we’ve been on a roller coaster,” Gregory said. That’s because Diana’s mother passed away and months later she also lost her brother. “It was rough for us,” Gregory added.
The struggle only intensified. “To make it worse, we had to sell the house,” Diana said. “Cleaning out her house, in the summer, we spent the summer…it had to be sold.”
That flood of emotion in dealing with those losses is in sharp contrast to the joy they are experiencing now. Gregory works as a residential commercial painter. Diana writes and is also taking care of her mother-in-law. “We get to put some away for our retirement,” Diana said. “That’s gonna help a lot as we age.”
The couple purchased their lucky ticket at Country Club Liquors, which is located at 3473 McKee Road in San Jose (Santa Clara County). The last few years have been one heck of a ride, but the San Jose couple expressed nothing but gratitude after claiming their win at the California Lottery’s East Bay District Office. “We never even expected this,” Gregory said. “We thank the Lord. What else can we possibly ask for?”
